Eileen Gray was fascinated by the beauty of traditional lacquer work. She learned the centuries-old craft from a Japanese and perfected her skills over many years. Brick Screen is one of her most famous designs. She experimented with different sizes and panel surfaces. As a room divider or screen, it is both a piece of furniture and a sculpture in its elegance and rigor. Fixed and movable panels are painted many times over weeks of manual work, dried over and over again, sanded and polished by hand to create a flawless surface. This famous, sought-after design was added to the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Each copy is provided with a signature and serial number that prove authenticity and origin.
