Artek

The name Artek is a synthesis of "art" and "technology" - concepts central to the international modernist movement that gained prominence in the 1920s. The brand was founded in Helsinki in 1935 by Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen and Nils-Gustav Hahl. Their goal was to sell furniture and promote modern culture of life through exhibitions and other educational means. To this day, Artek remains an innovative player in the world of modern design, creating products at the intersection of design, architecture and art, and the brand's furniture is created in accordance with Alvar Aalto's original vision, combining modern production methods with skillful craftsmanship and carefully selected materials. Preferring the use of natural materials, Alvaro Alto especially loved wood and it became the basis of his designs. His characteristic minimalist design is still relevant today and fits contemporary interiors, and a large part of the brand's portfolio consists of his designs. But Artek also includes works by designers such as Ilmari Tapiovaar, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Eero Aarnio.
