The history of the Carl Hansen & Søn brand dates back to 1908, when carpenter Carl Hansen opened a small furniture factory on the Danish island of Funen. The evolution of Carl Hansen & Søn has been significantly influenced by its long-term collaboration with one of the greatest designers of all time: Hans J. Wegner. It began in 1949, when Carl Hansen's son, Holger Hansen, took the risk of entrusting a then unknown designer with the production of a series of furniture, which included the now iconic Wishbone chair. The collection turned out to be a success, and this collaboration and all subsequent ones confirmed what can be achieved by combining unprecedented design and uncompromising production. Today, Carl Hansen & Søn continues close cooperation with the Hans J. Wegner Studio and is the world's largest manufacturer of this designer's furniture in Denmark.
