Flos

At the origins of Flos there is the idea of creating objects that will change the way of life. In the early 1960s, Pier Giacomo Castiglioni and Tobia Scarpa began making lamps using the cocoon technique, invented in the USA. This is how the iconic Taraxacum and Fantasma luminaires were created. In 1963, Sergio Gandini became the helm of Flos, for whom there was no discrepancy between a business project and a creative imagination. Even back then, Flos based its strategies on what we would today call a Think Tank. Gandini and the designers Castiglioni and Scarpa together decide on products, communication and brand image. Together, they set a course of action that led to the creation of the most iconic lamps in the history of lighting. The following years only confirm the uniqueness of the lighting experience offered by Flos, and the brand itself cooperates with stars of industrial design, consolidating its international position. At the beginning of the 21st century, Flos takes over the Spanish company Antares from Federico Martinez, transforming it into Flos Architectural Lighting, dedicated to professional lighting of large surfaces and public spaces. New projects are created which, using the latest technologies, become architecture of light, objects between art and technology, objects that go beyond patterns and conventions. Flos remains open to the lighting of tomorrow, consciously researching and developing new types of lighting, maintaining the highest standards, constantly developing. Since December 2018, Flos has been part of the Flos B&B Italia Group, a leading global high-end design group serving many distinguished brands in the world of luxury furniture and lighting, with an established European cultural heritage. Guided by the goal "We design for beautiful life", the Group creates with the planet, people and culture in mind.
